 I love to create recipes that can be made for certain special occasions, like these
Savory Pita Hearts for any Valentine’s Celebration.

This little treat turned out to be a real winner. They are simple to prepare ahead to take to a
work party or as an appetizer for any gathering. Make them a head of time and just heat them
in the oven for 1 to 2 minutes on 400 degrees, just before you serve them. Or warm them in the microwave.

Savory Pita Hearts

4 whole-wheat pita pockets
12 slices precooked bacon
1 c. shredded mozzarella cheese
1 c. cottage cheese
1 tsp. kosher salt
2 tsp. olive oil
fresh dill, for garnish

Cut pita pockets into heart shapes with a small heart cookie cutter (half of
a pita pocket should yield 4 small hearts when pitas are separated). Cut
precooked bacon into tiny bits with kitchen scissors and set aside.
Combine mozzarella and cottage cheese together. Fold in salt.

Heat olive oil in a large frying pan. Make sandwiches by placing cheese
mixture and bacon between two heart-shaped pita bread slices. Lightly
toast each side in frying pan until golden brown and cheese melts.
Garnish with fresh dill and serve.
